Healthier flavored coffees are climbing in popularity with the rise in popularity of whole food plant based diets and other diet regimens like the intermittent fasting, paleo, keto, low fat and low carb eating choices out there today.
First you have to get on the right team of flavored coffees were discussing.
In this corner you have the syrupy sweet flavored coffees so many pre-diabetics sit in the drive through for, laden with insulin insulting whipped cream, sprinkles and high fructose corn syrup flavorings. Then there’s the camp who have to have their flavored creamers to add to the often bitter coffees available at their offices, churches and hospital waiting rooms fall into this category.
That’s not what we’re talking about.
In the other corner you have aromatically flavored, gourmet Arabica coffees, with no additional calories for a fraction of the cost.
The Healthier Choice
People who like scents of maple, southern pecan, birthday cake frosting, “the beach” (that would be Jamaican Me Crazy®), you name it, are turning to this better option for flavored coffees because they can have the aroma and yes even the sweetness and flavor of their sweeter cousins (if desired) but with some actual lean-mass leaning, fat burning potential.
How so?
You take a standard Arabica coffee which has about 1 calorie per cup. We then add an aromatic flavor product, say like Southern Pecan. Keep in mind there is NO SUGAR in this type flavoring, this is not a sweet flavoring like in your coffee shop lattés. Understand? OK, so net calorie change – ZERO.
Now add, say, your preferred dose of Stevia, some unsweetened Soy or Almond Milk or even Fat Free Whipped Cream and a throw on a shake of cinnamon and you’re up to may 25 or 30 calories. Even adding a teaspoon or two of raw sugar you are only adding 15 calories per teaspoon.
In any case the net result in the worst case is under 100 calories per cup, non-fat or low-fat as you like. Compare that to a typical 16 oz. Pumpkin Spiced Latté .

Dawn Patrol Morning Blend is full bodied proprietary Central & South American blend of a French Roasted Brazilian along with other specifically proportioned city roasted Latin coffees. The result is an extremely balanced acidity, exhibiting chocolate, caramel and nutty flavors. This is a one step bolder than our Breakfast Blend we’ve offered for many years because of the darker roasted bean inclusion.
Brazilian coffee is generally clean with a good body (creamy mouthfeel), low acidity, well-balanced, and often exhibiting a nutty and even slightly caramelly flavor. Brazilian coffees are known for their ability to take a darker roast, like the French Roast, without becoming bitter. This is due in part to the mild, balance flavour of Brazilian coffee beans. That’s why we like it. The darker Brazilian has a dark chocolatey flavor.
The two other coffees we add after years of tinkering bring out their mellow acidity and a strong caramel sweetness, perhaps with a nutty undertone. Sweet and medium-bodied.
